Level 2 Window Certificate

Competency Description:

This 3 day course provides in depth understanding of window design principles incorporating the assumptions and considerations necessary to achieve satisfactory performance and includes material selection and limitations, calculating for structural integrity and rain screen principles. It encompasses the principles for achieving energy and acoustic performance and gives a detailed insight into the BCA, Standards, on site work practices and the Trade Practices Act. The theoretical lessons are reviewed with visits to testing laboratories to witness and discuss physical testing and its relationship to design.
This course includes site visits to testing facilities and is themed with a Case Study and participant presentations. A Level 2 manual and a copy of the "Window Systems for High Performance Buildings" (Carmody, Selkowitz et.al) book are provided to participants.

Target Audience:

This course is suitable for R&D staff, engineers and technical sales people with at least two years experience in the industry and requires a good preliminary understanding of engineering principles.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course, participants should be able to:
Demonstrate an understanding of the full range of design principles that apply to windows.
Understand the benefits and limitations of material selection and application.
Explain the relationship between design calculation and physical testing.
Describe testing requirements for structural, water penetration, air infiltration, operating force and acoustics.
Align the BCA, State Regulations and WERS with the concept of energy and the consumer.
Identify key Standards and their relationship to each other and when they should be used.
Relate performance to performance measurement.
