Competency Description:

The Australian Window Association presents a 2 day Window Certificate Course for the window and building industries specifically dedicated to the commercial sector (Class 5-9 buildings). The course concentrates on the design, fabrication and installation of commercial window systems, outlining the principles associated with technology, water penetration resistance, energy efficiency, sealing, relevant Australian Standards, the Building Code of Australia and contracts. This course is designed for personnel from all areas of the commercial sector of the window industry who have more than 12 months experience.

 

Course Program:

Day 1 Design principles, engineering basics and installation
Day 2 Glass, specialised fittings, energy efficiency (Section J and WERS), estimating and contracts

 

The course includes a manual, comprehensive notes, case studies and practical exercises. A certificate of attainment will be issued.

 

Learning Outcomes:

  • - Demonstrate an understanding of commercial window design, fabrication and installation principles and how they differ to curtain walls, including expansion allowances and sealing,
  • - Understand the selection and application of glass and the more specialised fittings required,
  • - Identify potential pitfalls in contracts and understand legal obligations,
  • - Apply the principles of energy efficiency for conformance to the BCA.
